The Academy of Fine Arts


The Academy of Fine Arts was founded in 1907 and from the very start its faculty  was comprised of the most renowned Croatian artists:
Robert Franges Mihanovic, Menci Clement Crncic,
Bela Csikos-Sessia,Vladimir Becic, Ivan Mestrovic, Ljubo Babic,
Antun Augustincic, Krsto Hegedusic and others.

Over the years, the Academy has produced
numerous great painters,sculptors and printmakers,
many of whom returned to teach the next generation. Throughout its history, the Academy has attained very high artistic standards and created a significance of its own,in terms of both its educational standards
and artistic creations.

At present, the faculty comprises more than 50 artists and scholars and has an annual enrollment of approximately 250 students into the Departmentsof Painting, Graphic Arts, Sculpture, and Art Education.
The Academy provides an open and creative learning experience.In the first two years students get a good education in traditional techniques, which serves them as a basisfor development of their personal creative potential in the junior and senior year.
Students are encouraged to develop their individual perception and talents based on choices ranging from the realistic and figurative to the abstract and associative ways of expression.
The Academy is actively involved in the cultural and artistic events of the capital and the Republic.
